Default Anyone Here of Making Stock Touring Pipes into True Duals

A friend of mine was telling me he was going to take his stock pipes and on the back Y pipe weld a washer in the rightside pipe so it will restricked the flow to the leftside more. I have never heard of it and before he ruins a set of pipes has anyone heard of this or have done this.

Thanks

Someone on eBay sells a y pipe with a plug installed so the rear exhaust goes out the left side. Make sure your friend's muffler on the left side is not just a sound chamber. I think 07 + the left muffler is different from the right.

Don't know anyone that tried them though. I went went with fulsac conversion and SE mufflers.

On the '08 and older touring models, you can remove the y-pipe and drop a 1 5/8" freeze-out plug (from any auto-parts store) into the right down-pipe and weld it in. It's a tight fit but can be done fairly easily. Take your time and place it so it contours the exhaust smoothly into the left tube. On the '07 and '08 models, you have to relocate the rear O2 sensor. Just measure the distance the front cylinder O2 sensor is away from the head and place the rear the same. You'll have to buy a new O2 fitting (cannot think of what they are called at the moment) also available locally and weld up the stock fitting.

If you are on a budget, it is an option that costs less than $5 (<$1 if you do not have O2 sensors) and takes about two hours to perform if you have a welder. The heat shield covers any heat damage from the welding so "looks" have no impact with this mod.

Default exhaust

I run a modifed y-pipe on my '96 Road King for a "true duals" system. Had a local muffler shop do some work to the y-pipe so that the unused section of pipe coming out of the rear cylinder head is blocked as close to the head as possible. They then did the same for the other end of the y-pipe that runs from the front cylinder. I cut the y-pipe but left enough material so that I can still clamp the heat shield in place. I am not a big fan of the look of the true dual systems (seems to create a large empty space). So what I have is a "true dual" system that looks just like a stock exhaust system with all the heat shields in place.

Later,
BK

I actually run a 2 into 1 Thunderheader on my road king but I am like you don't like the open space and I am not running a fake one on the leftside so it looks funny from behind but with my 95 kit the Thunderheader makes a ton more power.

Thanks

Just wondering - what is the allure of the true duals? You get less power than the equivalent design of a 2-into-1 set of pipes. The open space doesn't look "right", but I'll grant that's an opinion. Maybe the heat reduction on the underside of the right thigh?

Won't Sat have to go with V&H like I did for your True Duals but for me was the Best Mod could have done Bar None ... Runs, Sounds, Responds, and Looks Better .. Pretty Hard to beat that Combination...
