What happened to the sound?

I totally forgot how lame they sound with stock pipes until I rented a stock Road King at Myrtle Beach a few weeks ago. I could hear all kinds of noises coming from the engine and tranny. Mine probably makes the same noises but I never hear them. Get some aftermarket pipes, a stage 1 air cleaner, and some sort of EFI tuner and you can get some good sound without setting you back too much - especially if you know where to shop and/or are willing to turn a wrench on your own.

Nothing sounds like a shovelhead.

I'm relatively new to the HD market... That kickstart is crazy! Looks like it takes quite a bit of "kick" to start it. What would we do without electric start today?

I have a carbed Wideglide and a fuel injected Heritage classic. I installed V&H big shots, screaming eagle breather, new cams, gear driven cams, and SERT tuned. When I light off my twin cam she rumbles and lopes. The carbed Wideglide is mild mannered compared to the fuel injected Heritage. What I afraid the op is looking for is a slow idle lope and that is bad for crankshaft lubing on older motors and new motors. They need some rpm to oil right. I always cringe when I hear a motor slow idling but as long as it is someone else's bike they can do what they like.
I think to get the true H-D sound you would have to buy a carbed bike, the new fuel injected bikes idle higher so they do not have the lope of the older bikes.
Of course since the MOCO is out to make the world a utopia where everyone is happy, they have those mufflers that do not allow any sound to escape the pipe. I am sure there will some aftermarket mufflers out very soon, that will wake it up a bit.

It all depends. That 79 I know of can be kicked over pretty easily. It is a hell of a lot easier to hit the start button though!

idling under 800 will cause lower than acceptable oil pressure. Just because your gauge says 10 psi where it is tapped in, dont mean there is 10 everywhere, in every passage, in every bearing. Not to mention you dont have to worry about incomplete or in efficient combustion loading up the plugs. 900-1000 seems good according to my tach and pressure guage
