Amsoil oil change interval Anyone? 25,000 miles??

Amsoil is I think $11 a quart at the local HD dealer and you know how they overcharge for everything.
I run Mobil 1 20W50 synth V Twin oil and change it every 5 - 6,000 miles and use a HD oil filter. Pay between $9 and $10 a quart for the Mobil 1 from Auto Zone.

Yeah maybe so, but I guess I'm a 'creature of habit' and I'll continue to follow the same maintenance schedule I've used for the past 39 years and 700,000+ miles....
Maybe oils are 'better' these days, but I like to tinker with my bikes and it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to run new fluids...
3 quarts of Mobil 1 15W50 and a new filter costs less than $20 and only takes about 15 miles to install, so I don't consider that a big deal, or a big expense...

After an oil change any oil will start accumulating dirt. Granted the newer oils will keep it in suspension longer, but I don't push it beyond 5K. I'm 68 & this bike will most probably be my last, so I intend to take good care of it. & I run Amsoil.

Friend, you been had. 1st thing you need to do is find a reputible dealer.. I think almost every Harley shop I was in down it Texas sells the stuff, so that should'nt be a problem.
Last I bought (little over a month ago) I paid $8.00 a Quart, and bought 3 cases.
I Change the primary and engine every 5000 mi.

I only put 1500 miles a yr on my truck (07/4100miles) but I am not leaving it in there for 3-4 yrs..
The way we look at syn motorcycle oil and think that there is a magic one is pure BS. Several brands are in the top 5 or so and any one of them is almost = to the others.. just find one at the price U like and easy to obtain and stay wilth it.

Hello TexasCowGrower. As others have implied, you didn't get a deal through your local parts people. The question of syn. or dino. can be beat to death, (and always will be) but there is one agreement in all the oil wars. Get a good filter. HD's are kinda new to me, so I have a HD filter for now. The better ones in the marine and auto world are; Wix (Napa Gold), Mobil 1, K&N, and the Purolator Plus fares well. Being your from TX,you may ride year 'round as I do in FL.. If not you'll want to change your oil in the fall so the contaminants the oil contains isn't sitting there doing damage in engine. Hope this helps and good luck.

No way I would go more than 7500 between changes. The 25000 mile rating applies only to water cooled engines and even in them IMO i don't trust them. Just tore a saab down last month with 21000 miles on it that was full of sludge so thick i had to scrub it out the vavle cover and oil pan despite running nothing but syn oil its whole life. Thats definently not common but it makes you think. Old oil collects water and water + oil = sludge. Not something I like to risk!

Yea I didn't change the oil in my 91 S-10 for about 6 years and by the time I sold it the oil looked like thick chocolate milk. Still ran good though. For all the crap I put that poor truck through it was the best damn vehicle I ever owned. Never broke down on me but one time in 14 years and that was a bad alternator.
