Default Any ideas on this ?

Im trying to replace the neck bearings in my old flh (1970)
Anyhow i cant get behind the race with a drift to knock it out
Dont see how i can use a puller on it
And due to some dumbass putting it in my livingroom I cant run a bead around it with my mig welder
This thing dont have the removable cups that i see some have just the outer straight into the neck.
I was thinking about trimming a bar to fit under and work my way around it , working it out as i go
Manual is useless to me .
More or less tells you that you replace them both lol, but no real info on removing the race

Thanks in advance

Do the races really need to be replaced? As long as they are in good shape with no grooves or notches I leave 'em be.

yep I can see and feel the wear If you look at the pic you can see it as well

A couple of thousanths is gonna make it a big deal to adjust without tight spot or play
It needs an outa province inspection or i would just do as you said and probly ride it as is.
But i got the parts now i need to replace them

I'd sharpen up a flathead and tap it under the race and work it out slowly like you said. Good luck.

Just use a large punch, go through the neck from the top to knock the bottom cone out, and from the bottom to knock out the top cone. Thid is not to hard to do and will not scar up your neck as trying to chisel from the outside will do.

You could try a slide hammer with a screw or bolt.Use the lip of the fastner and work around the race.

They gotta come out some way...looks like a chamfer on housing, so there something that should get in there to start them out..Can''t say cause I dont know how the race ID is compared to the steering tube
I do know I would never put new bearings in an old race....Just me..
If not sure I'd ask a INDY or even a wrench at the dealer

I give up
For now ..I will put this thing back together with the old ones
And when the snow melts enough i will wheel it outback to my shop cover it up real good and run a bead around the race with my mig.
It will shrink the race with weld pull and it will almost fall out by itself
I just wanted to get it done now ..not in the spring when i wanna be rideing it

Thanks just the same for trying though
