Default Dealer says I need new ECM $1084.00 WHAT!

I would like your opinion on somthing. I brought a 2005 fxdlI in late oct 2010. I put about 300 miles on the bike and put it way for the season, battery was taken out in novereber. Around January I put the battery in and started it and the check engine light came on and was popping and idleing really rough. The codes PO 113, PO118, PO123. Called the dealer they said, "these thing hate the cold weather wait until it warms up a little and try it again. I did that same thing, Runs horrible. After a week and a half at the dealer I call them! and they tell me that the ECM is bad it will cost $1084.00 to replace.

I guess the reason why they have not gotton back to me is that they were trying to decide what to do in regards to this problem. So that right there is telling me that they know they should fix it, but know they say they can do nothing.....

Welcome to the forum. I would go have a nice calm polite talk with the dealer general manager and explain to him that the ECM should really not be bad in 300 miles. That said, did you pull the maxi fuse in the fuse panel before removing/connecting the battery? If not, you might have fried the ECM connecting it.

Not a very common occurance but it is very possible.

Around here the warranty on used bikes is limited the last person I knew to buy a used bike from a dealer only got 30 day coverage, and that was for a 2000 year bike that was purchased in 2007.

Me thinks the reason they haven't got back to you is because they do not feel responsible.

Worst case scenario for me anyways......

I'd at least get a second opinion, maybe from an Indy?

Worth the trouble before plunking down that kind of cash.

It is a HD Dealer, not known to be the best priced places in town.
