Default No start...

So I've put about 1200 miles on the bike in the last week in a half with zero problems. Always starts and runs like a champ. Earlier I start it and the lights all flash rapidly a couple of times then just stay on. I think that's odd but everything seems fine so I ride down to the gas station and fill up.

I ride to the H-D dealership right around the corner and order a few grommets and gaskets, come out and the bike won't start. No clicking, no nothing. The lights come on but that's it. We try to jump it, nothing. The service guys are all leaving (5:05 pm) but they come out and push start me (hell yeah!). It idles fine for a few minutes and then just starts running like ***. At an idle, the speedo is jumping from 0-10 and the odometer is flashing pretty quick (no code like an airbag light or anything). So I just shut it off and push it into the shop. Hopefully I will get some good news in the morning.

Any ideas? While I hope it's just the battery, I also hope it's not because I know I'm going to be charged "accordingly".

Could be a bad cell in your battery and it doesn't want to start under a load. If you had any faulty sensors I think it would be showing a code.

These are some of things from the Trouble Shooting section;

Do you have security? If so that would be the first thing I would check based on your description of the lights flashing then staying on. You might have a bad TSSM.

1. Ignition switch not in IGNITION position.
2. Engine run switch in OFF position.
3. Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections (solenoid chatters).
4. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
5. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or overrunning clutch slipping.
6. TSM/TSSM/HFSM Bank Angle Sensor tripped and ignition/light key switch not cycled OFF then back to IGNITION.
7. Security system activated.

does it have the security system?

if so, replace the battery in the fob. this sounds just like my experience last month.

Sorry guys, I've had a long day. It is an 01 Low Rider without the security system and without fuel injection. They didn't have a chance to look at it yet, hopefully I will find out something on Thurs.

I did turn the key a couple of times to make sure it was fully on. It did start, but like I said, it ran horribly and the guages were all screwy. They prior owner did install some damned neon lights on it and some stupid one wire turn signals on the back. I guess that there could be a wiring problem that took this long to short stuff out. I'll let you know when I find out. I'm sure I'll have something to bitch about when I get the bill!

Evidently it was just the battery, it was leaking acid around the top of it. They checked the charging and starting systems and they are just fine. The price for the labor and battery wasn't that bad.

I didn't mention the dealership before because I didn't know how this was going to turn out but I will definitely being doing more business with Stone's H-D in Marion, IN. All of the service guys, and girl, were cool and didn't pull the whole "I'm off the clock so I'm not going to help" line.
