It actually does work well, OK maybe not real well but probably cuts down 30% of the spray hitting you directly in the face. Tie it so that a large part of the triangle hangs down behind the rear forks and rubs the top of the tire.
What really works is a bandana, a Biltwell helmet and a bubble shield.

Yes, (only if caught out in it)and yes that is a Fram filter BTW a plastic coke bottle with the bottom cut out makes a great temporary rain deflector over the velocity stack.
