Default Helmet laws going nationwide - maybe

The NTSB wants all states to require all motorcycle riders to wear helmets, citing a surge in deaths since the late 1990s.

Default Helmet Laws

Probably not going to happen. The Feds tried this with seat belts in the cars and the States pretty much told the Feds to butt out. That it was a state matter. But you never know with this administration.

Just a quick clarification. I meant the use of seat belts, yes the Feds did order manufacturers to install them. But they could not mandate their use.

I hope it doesn't happen. I wear a helmet every time I ride, and I use seatbelts every time I drive. This is my decision. I'm opposed to both laws. I'm an adult, let me make the decision. I hope this is not too political for the forum.

Won't happen. The only argument the Feds have is via the interstate commerce clause and helmets (or not) don't meet that criteria. 10th amendment ya know...

Feds can get anything they want done...all they need to do is to threaten to withhold some type of funding and the states will give in.

Like the 55 MPH speed limit. What a nightmare that was!
