Horsepower gain from Stage I kit?
#2
A little confusing, but I think you are asking the difference between a stock 96" and a stock 110". Nothing to do with stage 1. However, a bone stock 96" will get you about 66 HP and a bone stock 110" will get you about 78 HP. Add a stage 1 (hi-flow a/c and free flow exhaust) to either one and you will pick up 6 to 8 HP.

Thats it? 6-8 HP increase from a stock motor to a 110? The kit is $1500 from HD, and another $1500 ± to install.

I dont know about the 110. But heres my opinion. I now have a 96 cubic inch 2010 Ultra Electa Glide. I likied it the way it was stock , except for the right side heat. I now have the Screamin Eagle air intake, Fuel moto Headers & mufllers , 2 into 1 into 2. Power commander five. I raced my son while he was riding a stock 2009 Eletra Glide. Sure , I beat him,,, but not by much. I think for the money spent ,,, it is a waste,,, I think Im gonna take most of this stuff off and put it back stock,,, except I will cut out the cat. Then sell all this stuff. I dont think it is worth it for such small gain.

not totally sure what you are saying. But usually stage 1 upgrade is slip ons or new pipes, some thing like Hyper Charger and Power Commander. Using Big Bore kit from 96 to 110 is something else. But the stage 1 that I mentioned you will get no less then 6 and usually no more the 10.
That's if I'm right and if I'm wrong some one will correct me (trust me on that, no hard feeling being corrected though)

If you want a bike with a high Hp/high Torque engine; the least expensive route is to purchase a 1,000 cc plus Japanese, German or Italian motorcycle. In the long run, it'll cost you less and you'll get more power than any modifications you can make at any price to a street-able air cooled Harley big twin.
Some fellow posted recently that he wanted to select his camshaft on the basis of the way it would make the engine sound at an idle. Basically he's after the Harley Davidson equivalent of installing a Duntov 30/30 cam in a small block Chevy. At first I wanted to laugh at his stated motivation for changing the camshaft in his bike. But upon further reflection I figured that his goals were probably a lot more realistic, (and certainly at the very least attainable) than those of many others who purport to get fabulous power increases with relatively minimal engine modifications.
