Hey guys

My and my brother went on a ride last weekend, me on my wide glide, him on his soft tail. All in all it was about 650 miles. Well on his, my trip read closer to 630. Is it common to have a difference in readings? How does the odometer work? More curious than anything else.

 

The speedometer works off a sensor in the trans. Should not be that far off. Find a measured mile, set the trip to "0", then ride the mile. Should be right on. Or if you have a gps you can do the same thing.

 

Did either of you change wheel sizes from OE?

 

That's just a touch over 3% difference. My EGC and my wife's XL are usually off a couple miles over a hundred or so.

 

sounds like the difference between a new tire and a tire that almost needs replacing.

 

I had a short ride today....
GPS says 69.8 miles...odometer says 71.8..
Harley odometers run about 2 - 3% fast..
