Default Tire plug question

I brought my Softail in for a 5k service to a local indy. (I am not a wrench turner and with 2 boys who play 4 different sports, I want to spend my spare time riding my bike not working on it.) When I picked the bike up, he mentioned that the back tire had been plugged. I just bought the bike in April, it was used. He said he does not recommend plugging a motorcycle tire and it should be replaced. Any thoughts?

Same here. I now have Run flat in my tires to help avoids flats, but still carry a plug kit with me. How long will the plug last? Days, months or years until you replace the tire, just keep checking it until you replace the tire.

Yeah, I've never had any issues with plugs, and have used them several times and kept them the whole rest of the life of the tires. Do keep an eye on it though.

While I carry a plug kit with me for emergencies, I would replace the tire the first chance I got.

But, that's just me.

Been in the retail tire business for 17 years. Plugs are good for a quick fix in a jam but I sure as hell wouldn't ride on one for any length of time.

On a bike, tires aren't the place to try and save a few bucks.

I rode my last rear tire 8000 miles with a plug. About 6000 miles into it, I re-plugged it after it developed a slow leak.

I've never had an issue with a plugged tire.

Every time this subject comes up I make the same offer. If you are replacing a good tire because of a plug, I will pay the shipping if it fits my bike and I will take it off your hands.

I wouldn't run long term with a front tire plugged, ( just enough to get me home,) but I'd run the rear 'til it was time to replace the tire.

I always carry a plug kit and a small compressor too.

I carry a plug kit use them as a band aid only. Replace or patch tire ASAP. I plug car tires alot on job they hold up well, patch is better. On two wheels I don't take the chance with just a plug.
