Has anyone used the 3157 in their taillight is it any brighter?

Junk. I used them in one of our cages and they burned out very fast.

Took my money - not one bit brighter to my eye. Run their Ultras in my headlight but
change it yearly as they don't last nearly as long but worth it. IMHO.

Agreed they are a bunch better than the factory bulb, but why change it every year?
I have had one in the front of my bike since about a month after I got the bike (Sept 06) and its still doing its job just fine.

For most they burn out quicker. For some with luck like no other they burn a long time. I got a buddy running them now 2 years. I had to replace some after a year almost to the date. Personally ... I rather have them in my head lights and replace as needed. They do a great job for me. I wouldn't want them in any kind of turn or stop signal. Too much of a head ache.
