Default Rear view camera

Has anyone tried something like this to both record video and provide an electronic "rear view": the Contour+ POV HD camera mounted on the rear, then with it linked Via Bluetooth to a iPhone/Android phone mounted on the handlebars to provide a live video view of the rear view using the "Contour Connect" app? Seems like that'd be a pretty nice way to get a 170 degree Field of view electronic rear view mirror while also recording any rear 'incidents' for the insurance company and cops.

Would be a cool novelty but I doubt very usefull. I've gotten by with my mirrors for the last 35+ years I've been riding.

Here's an easy way to shoot video toward the rear (some model motorcycles better than others), also some tips of what to consider when buying a camera mount for motorcycle: http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/camera.html

I have tried to mount my Stealth HD170 camera using the open holes for mirrors on my StreetGlide using a RAM mount. The resulting videos were unacceptable due to vibration. No complaints about RAM products, I just am not convinced any mount system attached to the handlebars is going to produce good video. I suspect using the Leader mounts will give the same results whether attached at the controls or using the ring mount. At $109 for the mount I am not encouraged to "try" the Leader mount. Comments please.

Hey Hoethree. You are right in that the quality of the ROAD plays a big part in what you get on camera. Some roads just plain SUCK. It is also affected by how long the camera "rod" is - the longer it is, the more physics are working against you (that's why we recommend you go as "short" as your application allows). We've done a lot to minimize vibration in the Leader mounts: there is a dampening ring for the bottom of the base slot, an Ultrasecurity screw across the top of the lug, and set screw that "bites" from the side. Hope this helps...
