I didnt care for the skid lid half i got...wore it once and sold it

 

HCI makes a decent fitting DOT approved half helmet.
Mine is not mushroomy on my head at all.
This one is $35 bucks on Amazon right now.

 

I like my Skid Lid that I bought in 2008. My parents bought some a few years after me and their's are bigger and fit different.
I tried on a Daytona half helmet in Arkansas last summer and it fit REAL nice, I kind of regret not buying it.

 

I have both a Skid Lid and Daytona half helmet, and the Daytona is definitely lighter and therefore more comfortable to wear ...

I have owned Daytona, Skid lid and HCI. The Daytona is the best choice. The Skid Lid looked like I was ready to skateboard and the HCI was huge and lower quality than the others. From my experience the Daytona has the lowest profile and highest quality. I broke the visor by pulling it off like a gorilla, totally my fault, Daytona sent out a replacement free of charge without a receipt, no questions asked.
