I have one, long story. Up shot, can't trade it at a dealer, they don't do salvage bikes, wont consign it either. Sell? "Oh, salvage title?", low-ball offers only. This is a really clean '02 Deuce, ~9000 miles, fixed in 2003, not like it was just cosmetically fixed and sent down the road to get rid of trouble. I got it insured, but I know that there is difficulty financing the bike, I paid cash.

I would take one for about 10cents on the dollar of trade in value. Fix it and ride it. Can't spend much on them because they are such a hard sale. No bank is gonna loan on it so you always have to have cash buyers. If it is not just a smoking deal, nope.

Probably different from company to company, but a ways back when I looked at a salvaged bike to build a chopper, they said IF they insured it, it'd be as a salvaged bike and not the normal worth of it...or something like that, been awhile.

I'd buy salvage if I could get it for parts and was not going to sell it maybe.

If you have no plans of selling it, and the price is right, sure. But, in most states once a salvage always a salvage! Your pretty much married to it, unless you want to sell it for what you paid for it!

I sure wouldn't be having any ideas of fixing it up and selling it for a handsome profit, cause that ain't gonna happen!

Dealer offered to take mine in trade, but I sold it for more than they offered. You are right, don't expect to get a decent trade in allowance on a salvage bike.

Most banks wont loan on salvage titled bikes in my area. It wouldnt bother me to either build one or buy one if I knew the workmanship was good quality. I would however like to know where it came from and all the info I could possibly find out. Not alot different than buying a used bike from a stranger.
