Default What is up, with HD parts and independent dealers?

I know last spring HD said they were changing their policy on selling parts to independents. I I didn't pay much attention as I get my service at the HD dealer. Recently I decided to do my own oil changes, in between 5k services, and the Indy sells mostly Drag Specialties parts now. So HD didn't get me to buy their filter, as I live an hour from the closest dealer, they just lost business. What sense does that make?

It is called protecting the Franchise rights of a Dealer. Automotive, motorcycle or boat dealer as examples. That is why we paid those franchise fees.

Well, I understand that intent. But they just conceded the parts market for independents to non-HD manufacturers. How does that help you.

I go to Al Muth for service, because I'm happy with his service and quality of work. I wouldn't like going there because I was forced to go there.
