Default First sturgis, what do i need to know?

A couple of guys on base and I decided that this year we are going to sturgis.

Right now theres 5 of us going, already have everything booked
Myself, two guys from the mechanics section and their wife/gf

Myself and one of the guys will be riding the way, the one guy is currently looking for a bike (sportster is what he wants) but until then he'll be rocking with the ladies in the truck.

anything i should bring specific?
the list we have so far is
some tools in case we break down
sleeping bag
tent
money
light amount of clothes since we'll be buying down there

we are coming down from Canada, 11hr ride so its gonna be good

When i lived in Seattle a few years back I made several trips to Bike week and you wont regret going at all. I would definitely bring a ran suit, that time of year it can be sunny one minute and a sudden downpour with hail etc with very little warning. It rains during bike week every year at least once. If your camping put some thought into an EZ up or some type of shelter for your bike as Ive seen more then a few rides get damaged by hail, also a good size piece of cardboard to cover your vehicles windshield so if there is one of south dakotas legendary august hail storms you wont be searching the next day for a new windshield. All in all have a great time and be safe.

Temp drops fast at night, bring some warm clothes.
Take a helmet or an umbrella with you every time you go riding. Why? Even small hail hurts like hell and there may not be any protection for miles.

Ask me how I know these things....

Spend 1 day in Sturgis and then get out and ride, be prepared for sunburn and freezing and hail stones and flash floods. They call them the badlands and black hills for a reason. Also some surreal landscape and an energy in the air. Have fun. Yeah that hail hurts, oh the tornado was interesting on the Nebraska line. Ha.

what he said! the hail sucks. the riding out in the country there is nothing but spectacular! another thing dont pass anyone on the sides of the road, they love to ticket for that one! dont forget Hulett Wyoming and the other sights, try to get there a couple days before to beat some of the crowds, most of all enjoy!!!

Check your insurance! There are a ton of novice riders out there. Don't give Rapid City LEO any backtalk, "yes sir, yes sir three bags full". Illegally parked bikes will be towed, it takes about three minutes. Have a good time.

If you're coming down on US 85 plan on extra travel time due to oil field traffic - the times, they are a-booming!

Thumbs up First sturgis, what do i need to know?

First sturgis, what do i need to know?

You have to ride your bike there.
no, wait...

You need to trailer.
no, wait...

You are a p###y if you trailer
no, wait...

Only people with baggers trailer, cruisers are the real bikers
no, wait...

You are there for the ride
no, wait...

The ride is more important than being there
no, wait...

Let's look at your plan:

you are going with some buddies
you have something to ride
you have some tools for emergency
you have a tent
you are taking some clothes
and, you have money for food and beer

you have all the bases covered
YOUR PLAN IS PERFECT, DON'T CHANGE A DAMN THING!!!

(I will only add: don't get thrown in jail, don't get a DUI,)
