Default Rear pulley life expectancy...

Got a call this morning from the dealer repairing my bike after my soccer mom close encounter.
He said they noticed the rear pulley was worn and needed replacing. Bike has a tad over 50k kilometers on it (Circa 30k miles).

Seems a little low mileage wise for the pulley to be worn out already. I've no reason to distrust the dealer, but I've not dealt with them before and HD dealers over here just love to *** rape wallets whenever possible.

Eg, a belt here is the equivalent of 450 USD. They quoted me 1700 to replace the belt and pulley!

Not sure what would even wear a pully out. I know of two Ultras that have gone over 100,000 miles on the original pully and belt.

Is that the stock pulley? Shouldn't have an issue with the stocker.

Stock pulley's don't have a tendency to wear out. Either they are FOS or there is a problem that is not normal. I say they are FOS.

Belt is rubber and pulley is metal. It's going to take more than 30,000 miles to wear it out. I would do a depth check on the toggles of the pulley compared to a new one and when you find out indeed that they are screwing you I would let their customer base know this. Sounds like a girl taking her car in for an oil change and getting new tires and brakes on a new car. Some place take advantage of others. It's not right.

If they still have your bike in the shop, go there and have the wrench show you where the pulley and/or belt are worn. I'm sure they have new parts to compare to.

I have an 01 Road King with just shy of 90K and mine looks like new. Buddy has an 09 Ultra with just over 100K that is in pretty bad shape. This year he went through 3 belts. I just recently broke my first belt due to picking up a stone. If in doubt check the pulley yourself and make the decision to change or not. It is your bike....

Got over 80K on mine and still in good shape. Think they are jerking you around.

I had 168,000 miles on my 07 Ultra I just traded in. Original pulley. I have never had one wear out.
