Harbor Freight? Really? You would use that crap on your $$$$ baby? Sheesh! Aside from their bike jack (which I have one and use), I would not let any of their hand tools come near my bike.
I found before Harley that Jeep loves torx also. I found the trick other than using the correct size is to stay away from cheap brands and use quality torx bits only. I now have nothing but Snap On brand torx and life is much better.
Torx is twice as good as an allen head and 10 times better than a phillips head. Better then them all is a Roberson head. Square drive that will stay on your driver as you insert it in the hole. You have to be a fool to strip one of these out.
Torx bits are fine, but you must use the exact right bit! I too have stripped a T-27 bolt by using a T-25 on it (why yes, it was the derby cover! How did you guess!?).
Did this on my sporty as well. Was a freaking bear to deal with.

I'm suprised you actually trust that jack. I used it on my last bike but there's no way I'd trust it now that I'm a wise old man.
Seriously my dad uses it for his lawnmower and it works good but bikes aren't really stable on the thing.
Harbor crap and garbage tool(china)-Real tool,Lux(germany)
Keep kidding yourselves people...
Love the picture. I just don't have the time or patience to mess around with Cheap tools! I've never had a problem any worse with torx than any other type of bolt,I use Snap-on and Mac tools, whether I'm working on a Harley,or a lawn mower.
I think other than incorrect bit (yes, H-D catches us with that T-27 deal) is that people overtighten. I never tightened my derby cover with more than the H-D 8 way screwdriver.
