Default Harley is following Kawasaki.

30 years after 87 (first year) Kawasaki Vulcan 1500(88") Harley started using 4 valves/cyl.
12 years later started manufacturing 88" engines
12 years later ------------twin cam
30------------------liquid cooling (partial)
In 2004 Kawasaki started Vulcan2000 (120"), Harley is slowly getting there 114"(2017 CVO)=1900cc
In a few years (30?) Harley will switch to automotive style connecting rods, overhead cams, liquid cooling.

And Kawasaki made its first 4 stroke bike (W1) only 63 years after Harley did.

Yeah but before that Kawi made submarines. I love my Harley, but if they made a submarine I don't think I'd board it...

Why not? It would have air cooled V-twin engine and lots of chrome parts.
BTW, isn't your statement about not boarding Harley submarine a reason to be banned from the forum?
