2009 Dyna Lowrider won’t start after installing my tank/fuel assembly. (Newbie)
What’s up guys,
Hoping I can get some help on here.
I’m kinda chasing my tail at this point. I recently got my tank painted and had to remove my fuel pump assembly. Tank is completed, I installed everything back the same way I removed it. Made sure battery was fully charged.
Added sufficient amount of gas, but now it won’t start. I can hear the fuel pump prime, and my engine cranks, but doesn’t catch. Almost as if it’s not getting gas.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Check the tank disconnect to be sure it's correctly seated and nothing got in it while disconnected. Next look in the tank to verify nothing came loose and is correctly routed.
Just to verify try starter fluid or a small shot of gas in the throttle body. If it fires then you know for sure it's a fuel issue.

What’s the fault code? Check this first to clear/repair. If all good, then make sure the internals are still connected. Caught me out this week, even with pump priming! Endoscope camera is easiest, or you may have to strip the tank again to check - I did this and found my feed pipe had been blowing off the check valve on priming.

Got it to start and took her out for a test run, but…
I ended up taking the fuel pump assembly back out and noticed the retainer clip that secures the filter and o-ring wasn’t sitting in the slots.
Removed clip and reinserted(correctly). Put everything back together..and it started!!!!
Made sure everything was secured and took her out for a test run.
Half way down the block it stalled out..heard some misfire shots before it gave out.
Started back up, but when I went to give it some throttle it wouldn’t accelerate and would stall out. Powered off and back on, the throttle worked intermittently.
Managed to get it home after it stalling out on me several times.
Back to the drawing boards!
Thanks guys for the help

2. Not really.. You might listen for a hissing sound in the fuel tank after the fuel pump initializes but you won't find issues like a weak fuel pump or bad pressure regulator.

Fuel pressure does sound like the issue here. Make sure there are both retaining clips fitted on the pick-up hose (from strainer to pump), and the pressure feed hose fitted (from filter output to check valve at both ends), the pump then pressurises the system when ignition is turned on, then turns off (initially) and you start the engine.

Found the problem!
Clip that hold the regulator popped off when the tank pressurized.
Noticed gas spraying out from the side when I opened the tank back up and switched the ignition on to engage the fuel pump. Pulled unit out and secured clip by bending/crimping it tighter. Placed over the regulator and secured it onto the housing..this time it was a tight fit.(no gaps)
Put everything back together and.. Voila!!! She fired right up! 😎 #success
Thank you all for your help ✌️
