Default Air Horns?

I bought my first Harley about 14 months ago, an 03 Heritage, with a Carb. It was in showroom condition, 2,500 miles on it. I am now just shy of 11k miles and it has been totally trouble free. Gotta get it in for its overdue 10K checkup soon, prolly put some new tires on it then, and maybe a new battery. The tread looks like it would be ok for anothe couple thous. miles and the battery has never failed me...better safe then sorry I figure.
It came withPython slip ons, lots of other littleafter market goodies. Its a "Gold Key" package with lots of factory chrome and a flock of eagles all over it. Other than a luggage rack and a T bag I have managed to resist putting anything else on it.....up untill now anyways.
I really hate the wimpy sounding factory horn on the bike. I really like the look of "Howard's Horns". Ya know...them little chrometrumpets that are supposed to sound like a semi? You are supposed to be able to pop off the horn cover and replace the factory horn with a little compressor. Then put the stock cover back on. Hook up a relay under the seat, to the battery, swap some wires around and thats it.
A question for you guys:
*Has anybody here installed something like this?
I really think a loud horn can possibly save your ***, but I hate the thought of shorted out wires, dead battery, or any other potiential grief that might come from installing this set up!

I have the larger Howard horns installed. After the old folks tried to run me off the road 3 times here in FL I thought it was time to do something. The Dynamic Duo is great. The bigges they sell for a bike. Ear piercing sound. They hear this one. My HD horn failed to sound during emergencies. I test this one when alone on the highway just to be sure. Never fails. Has already saved my a$$ twice. Install is not hard. I like that the compressor is hidden under the cowbell. Just run some wires to the supplied relay and plug in your stock wire and there you go. Much louder that the HD airhorn. Good luck. This one gets a 5 star rating from me. - Jeff

I have the Howards on my 06 Deluxe. Look, they are certainly louder than what you had stock, but these are not the 'semi' loud ones that you have in mind. If you want that 'semi' level in decibles, you will have to buy truck horns. There are many sites available for truck horns. But keep in mind the following:

1. It is technically illegal in most locales to have these horns on anything but trucks. However, I know of no instances regarding enforcement. I live in NYC.

2. You will have to mount a compressor and air supply. This usually entails giving up something, e.g., your saddlebags.

3. You will need a large capacity battery, much larger than your mc battery. Mounting that also entails giving up something, e.g., passenger seat.

4. You will have to mount the trumpets somehow. They are looooooong. You will probably have to fold them up a little like the musical kind. But you still have to find somewhere to mount them.

Finally, when you toot those truck horns, you will have be ready to jump out of your own skin or at the very least, have a change of diapers/depends available.

Good Luck.
