Adding bags is a by product of our main goal, which is to retro-mod Dyna models into FL Panhead and Shovelhead clones. The most prominent feature of out conversion is the FL style front end and usually full fenders. Saddlebags may or not be part of it.

Well, after a long wait, I've put together almost everything needed to fatten up my '02 FXD.
I've had '02 FLSTC tubes & front wheel & '03 FLSTC sliders for a while. Came into some "fun money" & ordered a set of '00 FXST trees off Ebay, along with a set of Progressive FLST Monotubes & a Klock Werks "Thickster" front fender.
(stock photo)
I'm goin' for a little different vibe than most. Rather than chasing the early FLH look, I'm going for resto-mod, late '70s/early '80s "pissed off" street bruiser kinda thing.
Here's what I'm starting with-
At any rate, I'm very stoked to finally get this project going.

Can anyone point me toward good threads on doing the forks? I know a couple of y'all have done some thorough writeups on it, but I can't seem to find 'em.
Is there any pre-determined amount to trim the "wings" on the FXST lower tree? Does the factory fork-stop on the neck need to be ground off? Just trying to get my head wrapped around this in advance. Have never done forks before, so want to be prepared before I dive in.
Thanks in advance.

Carl, the best info your going to find is going to be here. You'll just have to dig thru the past 234 pages of the thread.

That's what I was afeared of. Wish this group followed my thread settings, showing 40-odd posts per page, vs. 10.

You are going to love the FXDF shocks. There is a reason H-D charges $400 a pair for those.

AFMM3, I'm getting them primarily based on your recommendation. I wanted to bring the rear down a hair to match the front, but at the same time, I still want a controlled, comfortable ride. Didn't get quite the deal you did, but not shabby.
Also snagged a '02 FXDWG headlight off the 'bay, as well. Looks like all I need now are axle, spacers, bearing & the assorted small parts. Probably gonna hit up the dealership for those, it's a really good shop & good folks & I'd like to throw a little cash their way.
