I was referring to FL softail trees-the kind that accept FL fork tins. I thought the procedure was the same as you describe though. I've never worked on a 2005 or older dyna FL conversion. Wouldn't you have gotten the same effect using FXWG trees with no grinding? Or is the rake different with the FXST trees?

The fx wide glide type trees are the same for a softail or wide glide and have a serious rake in them along with being wider by a half inch than heritage style trees. Also have no bolt hole on the lower tree and the distance between the top and bottom is too short. which is my you have to use lower fork brackets to attach a detachable wind screen. there is some difference in the neck rake between the wide glide and the superglide frames but it is not much I think 4 degrees. Anyway, it is a blessing in disguise that this stem is unusable. The previous owner backyard engineered it by GRINDING in a new snap ring grove. which probably heated it up enough to screw up the tempering.

Carl is right. in fact on my wide glide trees they didn't even bother to really smooth of the grinder marks, just chromed them right up grinder marks and all. and this is a factory tree.

Fskitch or anyone considering a switchback front end. Came across this while looking for new stem. Seller has the top tree in another auction......

Excellent price for those trees. Wonder if the damaged steering stops would cause tank slap.

Still loving my DuoGlide but the 2008 Ultra Classic was feeling outdated. Did 2,000 miles on it last week with the wife and then took it to the Indian dealer to get a new Springfield. Found this in the back room. Only had 8k on the clock and about 2-3 grand worth of extras. Price was right cause they didn't want it showing up the Indians on the showroom floor. In my garage now. This thing is awesome! That is my 2008 in the backround.
