I did have one minor setback - one of the welded nuts on the L-bracket for the for kuryakn clamp bolt fell off. The tack weld didn't hold very well. I'll probably replace both sides with locking nuts and some thread lock, as that's one piece I don't want to come loose given having to slide the fork tubes up through the clamps.

I've posted in flickr with some links in previous posts, but will work on setting up the album for ease of your viewing pleasure. This is good stuff.

Too bad with the welded nut. Just remember, on the outside of the "L" bracket there is no room for any protrusions at that spot because of the windshield plates.

I just realized why my locking nut idea won't work. I'll have to re-weld that piece into place, and hopefully do a better job than custom chrome did. Thanks again for steering me in right direction.

Do you think I'll have any issues welding that nut back into place? It's a pretty small spot. Might be worth my while to take it somewhere. I haven't even fired up the hobart yet. I'll pass on the rineharts for now. Not sure which direction I'll go for exhaust. I'll stick with the rush slip ons for now until I get this thing nearer to completion.

I'm itching to get working on fitting that rear fender into place. What did you use to cut out the 'extension' from your street bob fender?

If you take it somewhere, it will be good on the first shot and shouldn't cost more than maybe $15. It also take a lot of practice to make a pretty weld. I can only do it by accident (practicing to have more accidents though).

I used a pneamatic cut off wheel. It is in the picture. You can buy them sometimes for under $10.

Yep - for something like the main mounting point for the light bar, having someone do it for a few bucks is worth peace of mind. I'm wondering if I should knock the other side off as well and have them both done nice and strong. I might see if there's a better fastener though, something with a bit more welding surface. I'll stop by fastenal today and see what they have.
