ok I am about waist deep in this swap (going on 02fxdl), 99 fxstd wideglide front end, nacelle, cowbells, side plates, 7" headlight, fairing, no tire/rim yet as I am undecided on 16" or 21" can I use any 3/4" front wheel on this wideglide front? or do I have to stay pre 2000?

No problem - I can head to the dealer and measure but can't do that until next week, and wouldn't mind getting the holes drilled so's I can finish up the rear fender and get her painted. I'm sure it's not rocket science, just want to make sure the tail light lights up the plate well enough to keep the heat off me.

Lone, I would think that if the plate was parallel to the lens (where the light comes out) than it's in the right spot.

OK, here's some pictures of the results of my boredom. I'm keeping all the goodies I removed so I can switch when I get the itch. I posted them in the Dyna section too but thought I'd better share here as well.

Ackman - not sure I follow... but I'm looking for how far above the lens it needs to be, i.e. 1 or 2 inches or thereabouts, and just wanted the actual distance from the top of the tail light to the bottom 2 of the 3 hole pattern to get that. Nice pics of the bike and your homestead.

Here is what I was thinking, if the tail light and the plate were parallel at the yellow lines then it's in the right place. Mark the holes, drill it and go.

I understand that, but is there a point where the bracket would conceivable be too high for the illumination? I'm probably thinking about this too much. If that picture of yours is about where the bracket needs to be placed, then I should be okay. Thanks for taking the time to help out with this.
