Well, today is a sad day but I'm also very proud. Today, my daughter left home to attend boot camp. She joined the Navy last November and today she flew out to Great Lakes, IL to start her new career. We got a call a little bit ago and she has arrived in Chicago and is waiting for the bus to Boot Camp. Well she'll be gone now for about 3 months (boot camp and school). The wife, son and I will be attending her graduation at the end of April and I can't wait! Anyhow, just wanted to let you all know about my good and sad news.

Well, Hello everyone! I just found this myself and thought i would give it a go. As of right now I have Been in since 1992 and only have a couple of years left and i'll be done. I am a HT1 stationed at Great Lakes Training center. I currently teach these new Sailors how to weld and Braze a little before they go out to the fleet. Just want to say hello. Ride On!!!

Just got a call from my daughter who has been in Navy Boot Camp for the past 8 weeks. This morning she passed her FINAL test and exercise and is now (in her words) "a real Sailor". I am so happy and proud words can't describe what I'm really feeling. I admit that when she called me and said that, I cried like a baby. I guess that I'm just a little too emotional right now. We travel up north of Chicago next week for the graduation ceremony next Friday. A proud dad for sure!

Hi all.. First, THANK YOU all for your service and selfless sacrifices. My father was in the Navy back in the 60's. He was on a sub (I believe it was the USS Arizona but I'd have to confirm) and I enjoyed (most) of the stories he told me about his days in the Navy. I did hear some whoppers that I just don't know if I truly believe but who knows, right?

Anyway, I have a USN hat that I was wondering about... it is actually a USN hat or a copy cat? If it's legit, can you all tell me what time period this hat was worn in? I'll post a few photos of the hat in the group photos.

Just to clarify, I did not receive this hat from my father. I bought it in one of those antique type of stores to display in my son's nautical themed room. I have always been curious about this history of this hat but was reminded yesterday when my 2 year old picked it up off the pillow it was displayed on and handed it to me to wear. Whoever owned this hat had a TINY head because it is pretty tight on my head.
