Cam suggestions for 2005 FLHTC with Lehman Conversion
Probably been beat to death........ but seeking some real world comments about a cam upgrade for my 2005 FLHTC Lehman conversion.
Finally getting around to changing the cam chain tensioners, so while doing this I'd appreciate the forum's opinions.
1. Are the later hydraulic tensioners adequate? Is the gear drive a better choice, and if so how noisy is it?
2. My trike is geared stock as a FLHT. Taking off 2 up needs a good dose of throttle as it acts geared too tall for a trike. If I go with a S&S 551 or Andrews 26G, which the web indicates are good choices, I am concerned it bogging from a standing start. Will also do a air cleaner kit and some better mufflers while the work is in progress.
3. If the oil pump looks good, is there really any reason to upgrade it?
Sweet spot right now is around 3000 RPM... and that's generally the speed I drive it. I am not looking to build a hot rod. Just like to have a little more staying power on hills with the old lady on the back.
Thanks

Found this doing an advanced search. Appears the Andrews 26 is a popular cam upgrade. Also a lot of talk about changing the sprocket size to give a little lower gearing.
If anyone else chimes in, I'd appreciate it.

I'm not sure which cam is best for your application, but here's my experience with my '00 Roadglide with sidecar with HD 203 cams. Those cams seemed to start making good power at around 2900 rpm. Cruising at 60 mph I was turning around 2700, so the bike would bog a little at first if I twisted it hard. I went from the stock 32 tooth transmission pulley to a 31 tooth. That brought the 60 mph rpm up to around 2900, right where the motor started making good power. Made a noticeable difference in pulling hills, less need to kick it down a gear. I did not see any difference in fuel mileage
