Default Attach OEM sidecar to 97FLHP

I've decided to "hack" my 97 cop bike (basically stock) with an older HD sidecar. I'm in the process of adding all the brackets to the bike. The problem I've run into is with the rear bracket 87114-93A. It replaces the right passenger footboard mount. This replacement went smoothly, but when trying to re-mount the rear head pipe, I see the triangular brace welded to back of the pipe seems to interfere with the new bracket 87114-93A. Honestly it doesn't even look close to fitting.
Does anyone have experience mounting this bracket?

I've got no handling complaints with my current rig. All oem connections I installed and adjusted myself.
From speaking with others with experience, my 97 should handle better than the 69 pictured.

It's been a challenge gathering all the OEM parts to do this properly on the 97, and I'm still questioning why the rear bracket 87114-93A interferes with the exhaust. There is an older bracket, 87114-93 (no A) that my 97 parts book references but the newer part superceded it, and is referenced in harleys 97-98 attachment instructions document J00609. dated 2005-04-07.
Here is the bracket 87114-93A mounted:

And here is with the header pipe driven on to its stop. As I twist the pipe upright, the triangular bracket welded to the back of the pipe wants to occupy the same space:

It sounds to me like HD probably had a different head pipe for use with the side car. Maybe it was part of the "kit" when you bought the mounting hardware in 1997. To confirm I suggest find a HD Accessory and Parts book form 1997/98 and see what came with the side car. I know my dealership keeps the older books for these kinds of conversations.

But this is just a guess and suggestion.

You situation reminds me of a bike @johnjzjz built, 1971 FLH with a HD factory accessory kick starter. Part of the kit was a rear head pipe to go around the kicker, stock 1971 goes in front of the transmission. Good luck.

That's an interesting thought on the exhaust pipe. On older models, like my 69 shovel, the front head pipe received a dent to clear the sidecar bracket cross tie rod, but it was not a different part number. I checked the 97 FL parts catalog, and no other pipe is mentioned, even with the sidecar parts that are included.
After studying the exhaust and the sidecar bracket history, I'm of the opinion that Harley documentation found on the web regarding 87114-93A is wrong regarding fit. My understanding is that when a part is superseded (as 87114-93A did to 87114-93), the newer part is capable of replacing the earlier part in all cases. I think Harley didn't do all the homework and messed this one up.
I'm thinking 87114-93A will not work on 95-97 bikes, and I need 87114-93...

Yes, some of my first questions was how the "newer" tour frames could handle the hack without some of the things the shovels and pans had, like adjustable front fork, and steering damper. I did find that a shock like steering damper was made for the FLTs.
Nice rig you've got there , by the way! FXRC?
Another note to add here, after talking to a gentleman in Texas last night, he mentioned that my rear mount bracket looked like what was on his 02. Sure enough, i plug in 87114-02 and i find another HD document that shows a picture of my bracket as 87114-02, rather than the conflicting 87114-93A.
The -02 is more believable since I know it won't fit my 97. Guess I need to head to the dealer and ask the parts guys some questions...

^^^ 1986 FXWG..6 degree tree's, damper was just for one handed or No Handed at low speed.. Using Stock Russian Mounting "*****"... I love it.. perfectly balanced, and the Hack Wheel at as close to 9" of Lead, as I can get it...
Final selling Point...My Monkey can get in and Out, almost as easily as the Hannigan which has a door..
It is Hell to get Old...but..we Dealing with it..

That is not the correct bracket for a OEM sidecar. Go to Ronnie's Harley Davidson microfiche. I'll try to load photos of my 89 Flhtcu.

Your bracket appears to be 87114-09
BRACKET, REAR CONNECTION
I think the one you want is
87126-07*
BRACKET ASSEMBLY, REAR*
