Then, after the bike is properly tuned, you can experiment and know you can always put the professionally tuned calibration right back into your bike if you are not happy with your adjustments.
If you are willing to read and learn the tuning software, practiced updating the calibration in the ECM, make changes, log the running, analyze the data to see what the changes did both for knowledge and trying different timing and fueling values in order to improve (hopefully) performance. It takes studying the manuals, practice procedures for auto-tuning, updating cals, and most importantly, understanding what does what and how much change gets you to, or at least toward your targets.
It takes time, practice, perseverance and experience to get proficient and I champion your intention to learn, just don't do it with your fresh performance build. :-)

i understand, but the only tuner I've found in my area so far is the HD dealer. They're not gonna teach me how to tune. Once I have money to do so I probably will just have it tuned but I still want to learn. I want to know and understand what every single adjustment does exactly. Looks like my only choice at this point is to get it dyno tuned by the dealer.
