Default To time or not to time

Have M8 w/ SE ac and true duals. And a thunder max tuner....my question is if I advance the timing 3or 4 degrees will it help improve the spunk of my bike.....

Dynamometers are designed to investigate questions like that! And to optimise fuelling.....

this is a slippery slope. while adv ign timing can give increased mpg and throttle response, it does have a dark side. if timing is too far then you have longer burn times and that relates to increase heat. now as the engine temps climb, the fuel charge may not be able to handle it and you could get wild flame fronts which leads to loss of power and detonation. with the advent of computer control, setting base timing is about it as the computer looks at sensors and determines proper lead timing. the motor company runs extensive tests to find what works the best and unless you have mods that require more lead, leave it alone. really, lead timing has lesser of a role in determining power than many think. my 01 sport makes more power with less lead. now on the flip, too little can cause burn time on the downward stroke again wasting energy since it does little work.

Don't jump the gun and assume that advancing the timing will be the magic bullet. Let the tuner do most of the heavy lifting for you. Put a few hundred miles on the bike until it's ready to auto map. Then do a few more times. You want to optimize the tuning on the module.
Once the mapping is dialed in you can experiment with timing if you want, just a little at a time. But if you want a significant increase in power, change the cam and do headwork.
