tts procedure
i got problem with my stock 2008 flhr, it's pinging badly so i went to the harley shop and they said it's normal, but not for me and some people in this forum.
i expect to add k/n filter and suppertrapp se slipon, and to be tune with the tts program, my question is before buying it.
Is the tts program have staight forward explanation to perform tuning? i read the sert manual and it's well explain to perform a tuning by my own,is it the same format? is there basic map to start with in according with the our setup?
help from user please
sorry for my english from french canadian

They are unlikely to explain much about your timing. That's because screwing with your timing is where you can do real damage to your engine. It's far safer to just play with your fueling. Fueling has an impact on timing in that it impacts the burn rate of the charge. You get pinging because the timing is too far advanced for the afr you're running. Sometimes that's because the afr you're running isn't the afr you're suppose to be running. Overall correcting pinging is a reasonable expection of what you can do with the TTS, but they aren't likely to explain how to determine how to correct it. Rather it will show you what you need to know to determine the change needed and how to make the change.
Tuning means differant things to differant people. Strictly speaking changing timing or fueling to make the bike run better is tuning. Here on this board tuning has a more precise meaning. One is that it is across the board, not spot corrections. They start with calibrating the fueling so that the requested afr is the delivered afr. Once they have it calibrated then they set the fueling in support of a strategy, i.e. aggressive on power or conservative on fuel. The timing is set in support of the fueling and checked for surging, waning and pinging indicating adjustments are needed. Then they tune for power at wide open throttle. They hunt for the precise fueling and timing that will produce maximum power across the operation range at wot. Too time consuming to do across the board and of little value off of wot since there if you want more power give it more throttle.
So, on this board, when people talk about tuning that's what they mean. It costs you about $500 and takes a skilled professional 4-5 hours to do it. There are few people that actually do well at it, far fewer than attempt it. The manual isn't going to teach you that. That takes a great deal of experience to learn to do it and do it well. Spot corrections, such as taking out pinging, you should reasonably be able to do. Something like correcting surging and waning is a whole lot harder. A full tune from the ground up way harder and realistically beyond you unless you have a dyno to play on.
i see more how to proceed , afr first and if it needs timing
is there preset map to start with tts?
should i just get a fuel management will cure the pinging
which one to buy
The bike has a knock control system that will automatically retard the spark once detonation is detected. That's reported in the log. So the log will show you pretty clearly where pinging occured at. A rule of thumb is you take out half as much. Before changing timing to eliminate pinging you should log it occuring several times. If you can't get it to do it then you don't have a problem needing fixed. If you can get it to do it consistantly then you have a problem that needs fixed. If mostly the knock retard is within a small range and occasionally it's much more then you need to correct it most of the time. The knock control is for handling those occasionally's.
