Exclamation 1987 FXR Timing Issues

Background;
I have a 1987 FXR that is pretty much completely stock engine wise. Last year I had an electrical issue that had me sit the bike up until I could address it. Over the last few months I have replaced the Wiring with an M-Unit, replaced the Screaming Eagle Ignition with a Dynatek 2000i and various other components. Currently has a newish Mikuni 42 that I did last year before I started replacing the wiring (it was new last year). Engine is the stock, it has a, Dnaytek 2000i single fire, Delkron/Solenberg Transmission, All ***** 1.4 starter, 94+ inner and outer but 92 clutch/basket.

Now the problem, when I first went to start it up after replacing everything my starter started kicking back extremely bad and ended up damaging my ring gear as well as my pinion. I sent the starter out and the clutch had been destroyed. I bought a new battery, ring and pinion and had the starter rebuilt with a stronger clutch. Now I can get the biked cranked and running but it runs really rough with backfiring out of only the front cylinder exhaust and can not be revved. I have tried retarded the timing as well as advancing it. When I retard it I can get the backfire to lessen but it still is there. I am talking like it sounds like I am firing a gun loud. I have tried swapping the cables hoping that I made the mistake and it still does the same thing. Also, when doing this it won't run but will still backfire out of the front exhaust.

I need some help, direction or something

did you use the nosecone self contained version of the ignition or did you replace the stock control box and retain the sensor in the nosecone?

I used the one that replaces everything and sits in the nosecone location

ok, you mentioned that you have the single fire ignition control unit, do you also have a single fire coil? if not you will need one, as the stock dual fire coil wont work with a single fire system....you can think of a single fire coil as 2 seperate coils in the same housing.
do you have a single fire coil?

Currently it does have the Single Fire ignition Coil. The kit that I installed is the D2KI-5P which comes with the coil and everything. It also has new plugs and wires. I even swapped the plugs out thinking they may have messed up with no change.

Describe how you set the timing. Are you using the VOES?

Currently am using the VOES though I purchased a new one but havent installed it. I'm using the Static way of timing it by putting it in 5th, removing the plugs, looking for the TDC line with my finger over the front cylinder, then checking to make sure the cylinder was all the way at the top. I've done it this way now 5 times to make sure it was timing on the exhaust side of things

Timed again... Well, several more times. I tried to purposely set it 180 out but could not get the status light to appear. I then tried it on the first Mark, the line and the two dots. I also tried to set it right when the TDC line shows in the window as well as right before it left. I tried adjusting it on the Dynatek by advancing and retarding it. Nothing truly worked. I emailed Dynatek now to see if they have some insight.
