Default 07 Softail - Are FI Tuner &/or Dnld necessary w/ AC & Slip-ons?

hey all -
Seems like this whole Stage 1 thing has warped from a pretty simple "better breathing" exercise w/ air cleaner & exhaust upgrades, to including any number of additional efforts including but not limited to FI downloads, FI tuner boxes, dyno testing, etc. You can't get a straight story from any dealer or online either.

On an 07 (FXSTC) that I simply want to make breathe a bit better and not go all out on a race-tune for, is it really necessary to do any of the additional FI downloads or tuners along with a simple Stage 1 air cleaner and SE Slip-on mufflers? What's your experience?

thx [8D]

I have the same bike as you. I put the heavy breather on a v&h bss, and went around the block once just for the hell of it. I had the tmax ready to install and did after that. The only time the engine ever detonated was on thetrip around theblock. This told me the stock ecm won't adjust for it. For the sake of the breather alone I would suggest making it a little richer. Fuel pack, or pc at the very minimum. Tmax, although awesome is overkill for your mods.

Here is the simple truth. I ride a FXST 2007 softail. I put the V&H slipons and stage one Screaming eagle Air-cleaner, I bought from friend for $50.00 andK&N filter..And the Night-Rider ECU that a 5 year old can plug in...I am in the stinking thing for under $375.00 w/Tax for a increase of 11 HP. and about 80+ degrees cooler.Mario

Thanks guys.

Mgalfano - was the Nightrider item you installed the "02 Sensor Inline Enhancer Device", sold in pairs, that you install between the 02 sensors and the upstream wiring harness, on each cylinder? Sounds like it sells for about $80/pr and is a pretty easy plug-and-play kinda thing.

thx
