Default Which Stage 1 AC

Looking at the SE Stage 1 but there are so many. Too many.
The parts Mgr. recommended the Kury High 5 but ther's like $70+ difference.

Is it really worth the extra coin?

Installing V&H Double Bbl's and the mgr. also suggested the map download.
Would I be better off with either the Fuel pack or as I've been reading a lot here I am very confused, the PC V.

The more I read through the searches, been at it for too long and the more I do the more I don't know which way to go.

Since the bike is wrecked I am trying to do some upgrades while putting it back together.

Beyond the stage 1, I really don't plan to go any further, but I want to do my homework and get the best improvement for my bucks.

TIA,
Del

As to the higher flow air intake/filters.... pick one of the name brand systems, and of those... pick the one you like the looks of... because performance wise, there is just not that much difference in them... on a stock motor.

If you're never going to do anything more than a Stage.1, I would think the fuelpak would be the way to go. Just my opinion.

Some food for thought, Joe Minton had in article this Spring in one rag or another where they added components one at a time. Dyno for baseline, installed SE breather, dynoed, removed breather, added pipes, dynoed, added breather again and dynoed again with both. He concluded that below 4000 rpm, where most of us ride, H-D really does a pretty good job of airflow and the SE breather didn't add squat until over 4000 rpms. Personally, I rarely find myself over 4 - 4500 RPMs. Now, if you want raw horsepower at high RPMs, you'll want a breather. But if that's your interest in order to take full advantage you need to do cams and heads as well. For my money I intend to add the K&N filter to my OEM breather.

As for ECM downloads, I got this from a very good friend that used to work in the dyno room at the Development Center..... since '07 H-D ECMs feature "adaptive learning". They adjust for non-radical changes like slipons and breathers. They still run leaner than optimum IMO, due to EPA restrictions. The guys that put together the calibration matrixes for Stage 1, Stage 2 etc do all kinds of cool stuff for their own bikes. But they're restricted by the MoCo as to what they can do for the Stage matrixes. The basic poop is this, a Stage 1 download raises your rev limiter to 6200 RPMs... and that's it! If you think you're getting a fatter mixture you're kidding yourself. The '07+ ECMs don't *need* a fatter mixture to run as designed due to adaptive learning. If you're concerned about richening the mixture and cooling things down, get a tuner..... SERT, FuelPak, TTS, ThunderMax, DTT, PCIII or V... depending on how much input you desire.

In the past 10 years I've had PCIIs, PCIII, SERT and ThunderMax on my bikes. I'm kinda tired of chasing my tail on the basically stock Stage 1 bikes I ride and trade in every 3 or 4 years. I'm gonna put some mild, decent sounding slipons on the '10 Ultra when it gets here in 5 or 6 weeks and ride it stock for about 20 - 30k /yr. If and when I get to the point I have to keep a bike forever I'll probably do a BB kit, tuner, etc when it's over 100,00 miles and needing a rebuild.

Your mileage may vary,

TL

I run SE stage 1, V&H Big Shot Staggards and V&H Fuel Pack. I rode the bike stock for a year and before I add this. I noticed a big diffrence in throttle responce and power. I have not had it dynoed yet but plan on seeing what its numbers are. I am very happy with my set up.

+1. I think Archer's got it right. I've done lots of searches and looking at different products out there and I think it boils down to what you like for the air intake. It's too bad you can't get a unbiased response to this question from HD or a engineering firm that backs up the results with Dyno #'s or something to that effect. Anyway, I've got Rush slip ons and wanted a round A/C, didn't like the teardrop style on the 08 FXDC. Modified the back plate on a 6 & 1/2" MR. Gasket open type breather and put a round K & N filter in it. My observations; doesn't seem to run any hotter than before, maby lost a little low end torque, seems stronger above 3k or so (no tach), getting about 45 mpg. I'm happy for now, watching my plugs, got about 500 miles with this set up. XIED's may be in my future. I'm sure a tuner that allows you to modify as needed would be a worthy investment. I'm not and engineer, HD tech, or MR. Gasket / K & N salesman, just my opinion.
