So the exhaust that I am ordering from RB-Racing will take two and a half to three months to get here... So I am holding off on the race tuner, dyno and some moderate interals untile then. In the meantime I snatched up a pair of a friend of mine's old SE II slip-ons and have those on the bike right now. I was planning on getting the Big Gulp (is that what it's called, big somethin) Heavy breather. So I am going to go ahead and do that now and just get a download to hold me over. I am wondering is there is a specific map I should ask for (2007 FXDL if it matters) or I should trust the dealer to come up with the correct one.
Also, any ideas about what sort of power gain I can expect with this? I'm not expecting it to knock by socks off yet, but I've heard slip-on and a heavy breather can get you up to a 10% power gain, that would probably put me in the mid 80s for tq and high 70s for hp at the rear wheel, right?
[&o] Three months, at least with the SEIIs I sorta sound like I'm riding a Harley... anything beats stock.
There is no download for the 07 96 ci with that combination...( only the street legal mufflers & A/C ) Or just do the Slip On's Only and do the A/C when you get yer tuner & Exhaust...But it's gonna be lean .....06 88 Ci there is one..... Careful !
I actually read an article where they did dyno testing on a few light mods, unfortunately I can't remember the magazine but maybe American Rider. Anyway, they tested with a freer AC, K&N I believe, and with the AC and slip-on SEIIs, and with just SEIIs, and with an aftermarket exhaust and AC. The result was that with a stock 96 engine, the biggest and best gain across the board was with just the SEIIs, no AC. Not abig difference, but measurable. The AC alone or with teh SEIIs just leaned it out and no power gain. The aftermarket exhaust and AC did the same thing. With a stock engine, the article said no real gain could be had with the freer AC, since HD designed the stock AC well for the stock engine.
Even after reading this, I couldn't resist, and had the SEIIs, SE AC, and download done. The only real difference I could tell was that it then popped horribly on deccel. It didn't before. My wife has exactly the same bike (07 FXD) with just the SEIIs, and I could ride side by side comparisons which confirmed my feelings. So really, I would just use the SEIIs, no download, and wait for your other mods. Based on my experience.
They should be able to get a download that is close enough... Somegthing for the same air-cleaner and whatever pipe that is almost as open. I don't understand why it would be any leaner with that setup than it is now... I mean, a download for stock slip-ons and that A/C exists, so even with that download it shouldn't be any leaner than it is now, it should be just as "off" so to speak, if anything less off because the % air volune difference overall will be less as more air is being moved through... There should still be a substantial gain in power...
How could any download that is correct for that air cleaner make it leaner than it is now?
IF you buy the SERT there is a couple of maps that may work better for you.. I have just the Screaming Eagle slip On's right now and nothing else and the bike run's Perfict... Gonna leave it alone until 1000 mile service and still might leave it alone ( runs too good ) If I want to make noise I'll take another bike...
I agree with you, it doesn't make sense that a download didn't fix the problem. But that is what I ended up with. As far as that goes, I added the PCIII to fix that problem and get a better air/fuel ratio all-around, and had it tuned at an authorized PowerCommander tuning center using the latest software system they have, and it now pops on deccel even WORSE! They explained in detailwhy they couldn't get it any better, and why they actually leaned it out even more than stock in order to get the correct ratio. That made even less sense to me, but that is what they did. According to them it is because of the SEIIs. Hmmmm. So, my spring projectmay be to add new exhaust pipes plus a re-tune. Right now I am getting some really good HP/torque numbers, and it runs fine except for the pop, so I have left it alone.
One thing I do know is that the bike ran better, if not stronger, before I did any mods. My wife's bike ran great with just the slip-ons. and then I monkeyed with it and added a Cobra F2000i tuner, and it now pops more on deccel too. Even though it has the correct download from Cobra. Hmmmm....
here is my beech. if you cal 10 dealers. you will get 10 different answers !!! my newest answer from a dealer is f and s in dayton oh. they told me there are many download's for the 07/08.... can't the dealers get this straight ? This ticks me off. However, the one wrench i thought i trusted told me i do not need a download for my bike if i do not change air intake.
This is the problem Skip . Dealers seem like they wear dunce hats . The answer from dealers should be cut and dry, don't you think ? Example, where i bought my bike, they say no download. aces say no download needed. geesh !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [sm=wtf.gif]
One common denominator , all dealers tell me you DO NOT VOID WARRANTY with my rush pipes. (quote) . WTF, what dealer can we trust !!! [:@]
Take all this into consideration when you have a "Does it void my warranty" question.
How many HD's are out there with aftermarket exhaust on them? I've worked at a dealership for many many years and have never had the moco not stand behind there product because the customer had aftermarket mufflers on their bike. It is true every dealership will give you a somewhat different answer, that is because the moco does not have it written anywhere what their stipulation CLEARLY is when it comes to aftermarket mufflers.
It all comes with the dealerships experience,if they've been doing it a long time they know what you can get away with.
I have to agree with voyager1. Each shop will tell you sometthing different based on their experiance. I have an 05 Road King with SE air filter and Python slip-ons and had it re-mapped at that time. I then added true duals and modified the muffler baffles and no re-mapp and it run great, except for the decel pop and that really doesn't bother me. I know a number of guys that modified the exhaust and air filter and re-mapped and they all still pop.
I recently bought an 06 FXDL for the wife and put some V&H SS slip-ons and stock AF,noticed much better throttle response also with decel pop. I am going to try the Revtech DFO for the fuel mixture to save some bucks and then leave alone. If I'm not getting any engine fault codes, who give a crap. You can spend a fortune on this and that and there will always be something that just not perfect. If it runs good leave it alone. Just my thoughts.
I have SEIIs,hi flow AC and V&H Fuel pak...sounds great and get only an occasional pop on decel...the Fuelpak will cost more than HDs DL but it can be re-sold...got mine for $202 on EBAY..very happy with performance and sound....:>
