Speedo/Turn Signal Cancellation, Poor Performance Problem Solved!

I found My speedometer/turn signal/poor performance condition was due to a bad 3 place Packard connector on my 07 Sport. It is the #65 VSS sensor connector on the top of crankcase behind the starter. The female part of the connector had a bad seal where the wire enters the mating part of the wire harness, probably due to "shop rash", while it was in for other repairs. When I removed the VSS to inspect for gunk inside I also had to remove much corrosion inside the connector cavity where the pins emerge from the VSS sensor. A dental cleaning kit pick came in very useful in removing the corrosion that was hardened on the pins. Next I used silicone sealant applied by toothpick to the bad seal on the harness end of the connection.

Next I reinstalled the VSS, cleared all the codes and took for a test ride untill well into normal operating temperature. The speedo worked fine, the turn signal canceled as per specs, and the drivabity issues not only went away, but this bike now has the feel of a racer once again.

When I checked the codes after the test ride the only code showing was "tachometer no response" and this is probably due to my Mini Tach being an upgrade and it probably does not comunicate with the ECM the same way as the stock tachometer and speedo does. Anyway the tach works just fine...all the lights work and the rev limit indicator lights up right on 5500 rpm as set on the Race Tuner.

The cause of many, many man-hous of troubleshooting was damage, more than likely due to accidental roughness on the connector at the sensor location while undergoing an oil tank change. A thorough inspection of the area surrounding the work area may have disclosed the defect before it left the shop, but that is another subject altogether.
