Default 04 softail low fuel light.

I am removing the fuel gauge from the tank permanently and I can't seem to put out the low fuel light. Any one have an idea or fix?

Thanks

I have the same issue with my 2014. Full tank and the light intermittently goes on and off at will. It has to be an electrical or ground issue. However no one has been able to trace the where the problem is.... I have spent hundreds of dollars having technicians figure this problem....

Ok, the way the system operates is that higher resistance reads as low fuel, if you have a wire not making a full connection within one of the connectors then it will create high resistance with a low fuel light intermittently. So check the 3 connectors (fuel pump/fuel level sending unit on the tank, Speedometer, and fuel guage (this one is more optional as it won't impact a low fuel light on the speedometer)). This should be the Y/WH wire is the signal wire with BK as ground. If all is well then next most likely culprit is the sending unit. The sending unit is a simple design as just a plate that gets progressively higher resistance as the arm sweeps downward, sometimes when a fuel pump is removed and reinstalled the arm on the float gets bent a little and it hangs on the fuel tank tunnel, this may be the issue.

For you who is removing the fuel guage and want to disconnect the sending unit remember to jumper across the Y/WH wire to BK with a 27.5 to 39.5 ohm resistor so that the speedo always thinks you have a full tank.
