Low-Fuel Light on Softail

Low-Fuel Light on Softail
My '04 Softail has a 5 gal. tank, and for the first time on a ride, the low fuel light came on. According to the Owner's Manual, "there is at least 0.5 gal fuel left." Yet when I filled the tank shortly after the light was on, could only add about 3.5 gal., quite a safety margin which is good. Does anyone know when the low fuel lamp is supposed to come on?

Supposed to at 1 gallon.
Only a handfull of people on here have properly working fuel gauge and light.
I have long since given up and use mileage. I had it fixed at the dealer, and it worked for 1 whole tank!
