How much fuel do you have left when the light comes on? The reason I ask is mine came on yesterday for the first time and it took 4.5 gallons. The last tank I put 4.7 gallons in it and no light. I went to dealer and they were going to look at it when I did my 1k tune up. Has anyone else had this? I have been tring to gage how much fuel I have when the light comes on, but I thought the light was broke. The gauge seems right. As a side note the gage on the tank just lifts out, could that have something to do with it? The dealer said they will take care or it at the sametime.
HD fuel gauge is JUNK... Most riders just learn how many miles before the next fuel stop... This has been a topic many times on these fourms - most people with '07's stop between 190 - 200 miles,,,

Yea right! I start to worry at 150 - 175miles.
I went 187 miles on mine. Light came on. Needed 4.7 gallons. I am not sure if I was down to 0.3 or more. A posting I saw a while ago had people claiming they could put 5.5 gallons in a 5 gallon tank. Production variations? Where you stop filling? If I fill to the smaller fill hole, I think I fit more than 5, but not sure.
Anyway, I normally fill around 150. 125 if the next gas stop is unknown.
Pretty sure the owners manual states that it comes on at .9 gallons of fuel remaining - however, as stated above - this has been a topic of discussion many times. I'd say you just need to gauge your own bike as best you can - paying attention for the consistency it shows.
also depends on how you work that twistie thing on right. i would say check you driving habits and conditions. best keep up with your MPG's and figure accordingly. I love riding my bike, but I don't think I am hardcore enough to push it.
Dealer said it would come on when it got down to 1/2 a gallon to go. It has popped on three times....and every time, I was down to about 3/10 of a gallon left.
I start looking for gas at about the 160 mile mark.
The first tank of gas with my 07 RKC, the gas light came on and 2 miles later I was out of gas! The manual reads, when the light comes on there should be a gallon of gas left in the tank. Not happening with my bike. I'm hoping the dealer will and can adjust at my 1000 mile service.
Mine comes on anytime between 3.7 and 4.5. I look at my gas gauge and milage, if it looks like there is a quater tank left and i have less than 140 on the tank I know it came on early. If the needle looks pinnedand i have more than 150 Istart looking for gas.
i must be lucky,,mines right on the money. combined driving i do about 175 miles and then the light will come on. if i pull right into the station it shows i had about a gallon left. once my light comes on i can make 25 - 30 miles before im empty.
