on my 2006 flhri, the owners manual states that when the low fuel light comes on, you should have one gallon left. this doesnt seem to be the case with mine. i usually fill it up before then anyhow,so its not a big deal. but, several times, it has come on and i have gotten to a pump within a minute or two. when i fill it up, it takes 4.85 gallons or so(5 gallon tank). anyone elese experiencing this? what could cause this?
The only thing that light tells you for sure is that you have voltage to the bulb and the bulb is good. Anything other than that is questionable at best.
Mine comes on at about half a tank. I use it only as a reminder to start paying attention to the gauge and odometer. It's part of Harley's "charm" that they sell you a $20,000 machine with the gas gauge of a weedeater.

You can always just keep on riding when the light comes on then you will know for sure how much you had left. Just remember to post here so we will know how far we can go. Thanks in advance.
My RK low fuel light starts flickering between 1/2 and 1/4. When it stays on solid I fill up. It has about 1 gallon left in the tank. 5 gallon tank. I've also rode it farther and have almost put in 4.9 gallons. A little too close for me. I fill at at 1/4 tank. Why take a chance.
Hmmmm. I must be lucky then. Mine comes on right about when the "miles remaining" on the odometer reads about 38-39. If I pull in right then, I'll pump right at 5 gallons (2008, 6 gallon tank).
That being said, I think I'm one of the only ones I've ever heard of that's half-way accurate.
with my '03 RKC, when the light comes on - it's almost past time to find gas. the one time I rode it to the light (not to miles driven) it took 4.9937 gallons in the 5 gal tank. the dealer wants an hour labor to "adjust" the float...... I just reset the trip odometer each fill up.
2010 SEUC, light come on, miles to go on the odometer says 40, usually takes a little over 5 gallons depending on how soon I stop for gas. Tank holds 6 gallons.
