i dont trust mine like a few other say use the trip meter around 160-175 im lookin for a gas station anyways its not good for the fuel pump to let the fuel level get so low..
sounds like many of you are having the same deal as me then. i'm not gonna worry with it. in fact on my 98, i had some vintage style round gas cap covers that actually covered my gauge. i really dont use it. just wondered what could be causing that. float adjustment would make sense.
mine had been coming on at 180 miles. i switched from straight fishtail slip ons to some modified screaming eagle slip ons and it went to 200 before the light came on. i was impressed. but, i usually like to re fuel around 150 miles or so.
my 06 did the same thing so at the filter change I very carefully bent the rod the float is on so it would ride higher only by 1/4 of an inch or so. and now the light comes on when I have about a gallon of fuel.
i have an 06' ultra and my book shows one half gallon remaining which is usually pretty close to what i have found. like you, when i fill up my bike takes about 4.85 galllons and gain i have a 5 gallon tank
If the accuracy of the low fuel light is the only thing you have an issue with, consider yourself lucky.
man, youve got that right. ive owned one panhead, three shovels, one evo and now this twin cam. none of my old bikes had any kind of engine/tranny nose like this t/c does. it seems like a new noise almost every week...
My 99 Ultra light comes on around 175 miles on the trip and I usually dump in 3.8 to 3.9 gallons. No mods except for a modified OEM muffler. get 42-47 mpg.
Hmmmm. I must be lucky then. Mine comes on right about when the "miles remaining" on the odometer reads about 38-39. If I pull in right then, I'll pump right at 5 gallons (2008, 6 gallon tank).
That being said, I think I'm one of the only ones I've ever heard of that's half-way accurate.
Same here.....I get 220 to 240 miles per tank. In 34,000 miles the light has been consistant. Of course now the stations are starting thier winter blend and the milage suffers.

+1 ....It's not good for the fuel pump. When My trip A hits 150mi I fill up. (6gal tank)
My 07 RK had about a half gallon left in the tank when the low fuel light came on. With the new bike it's closer to a gallon. Like most riders, I don't have a lot of faith in the low fuel light. It's a nice feature but I don't rely on it to tell me when to gas up but it is nice to know how much gas is left when it comes on.
