pistons markings

Default pistons markings

heres another question im puzzled about pulled the jugs and while removin pistons the marking on the top the frony piston is marked 5B and the rear is marked 8A now i know they dont make a piston 8 over so what does this mean?

The first question is, are they stock Harley pistons? On the big twins they marked pistons to designate a change. 4 for 1974 pistons that had the wrist pin moved .030 compared to the previos pistons. 7 for 1977 and later pistons that used a circlip instead of a spiral lockring. I know 7 was used on 1977 XL pistons but I know of no reason for the 5B or 8A.

as far as i know they are harley factory pistons i forgot to mention this is on a 82 sportster
