RE: Open Belt
It's been done, but is expensive. Haven't seen one in quite a few years. It's not just an install, as the tranny trapdoor and cases have to be modified to seal the tranny, and the engine-primary one-way valve sealed off, too. Usually the cases will be milled to remove the primary area, otherwise it looks kinda clunky. Everyone I saw was a kick only bike, though I s'pose it could be done to an e-foot. It'd mean leaving some of the primary lip to support the starter motor stuff, and a partial cover to support the starter drive.
Back in the mid '70's some outfit named "Shuck and Jive" made a clear plastic primary for the XLCH models. I had one of the first Sporties with a primary belt, and tried the cover to show it off. It looked better than it worked. The plastic wasn't up to the job, and mine cracked around the clutch cable area.
