I am trying to convert my 1974 Ironhead Sportster to rear disc brakes. Has anyone done this? I have the stock swing arm and mechanical brakes now. I have a rim and rotor, but need to know about brake cylinder and master cylinder, also brake linkage. I know this should be able to be done. Thanks1
I put one on my '72 XLCH. Had it on with a swingarm frame, and later adapted to a rigid frame. My first master cylinder was a front master cylinder hooked to the rear brake. I had no front brake. Later I got a set of forward controls with a master cylinder as part of the deal. The wheel caliper was mounted to a bracket that slipped over a new axle spacer, and hung below the axle.
You might contact this guy and tell him what you're wanting to do. He can probably steer you in the right direction, and make up any needed brackets. He's very reasonably priced, and does superb work. http://www.fabkevin.com/
