Default Manuals etc

I have a 78 Ironhead that has been through several owners, each of them probably butchering it a little more. I can get the engine to run but something in the drivetrain is broken. Shifter does not work, and it is in gear. I'm looking for the best manual (Illustration wise, exploded views preferably) to get before tearing it down.

What do you use?

The best is to have these two OEM manuals ...
99484-78 Service manual 1970 to 1978
99451-78B Parts Catalog 1954 to 1978

I describe these as the best tools you can have. The service manual has the detailed procedures, the parts catalog has the exploded parts schematics.

I find it helpful to also have these two ...
Clymer ISBN 0-89287-126-1
Haynes ISBN 1-56392-534-6

The ISBNs for the newest editions will be different from these.

The two aftermarket manuals each have their strength. The Haynes typically has more and better photos. Having them is like having two extra friends to consult with.

Shifter problem could be easy if it is just the shift shaft; or it may be in the trans. You won't know until you explore. I do not have enough trans experience to offer any more.

Had the FSM, Parts Man. & Clymers on order. I had tried to find the Haynes but could not, however with the help of your ISBN # I now have it on order as well, Thanks
