Default Do Slipons Affect Mfg. Warranties?

Does having a new set of slip-ons installed on a new bike (showroom) affect any mfg. warranties? They'd be installed without any other work performed on the bike.

I dont believe so, no. At least not in my experience. As long as they are EPA compliant. I've had my stock M8 107 replaced twice under warranty. That doesnt happen without Moco approval. And they (HD corp tech) did ask which mufflers were on the bike (V&H Eliminator 400s is the only power train mod I have)

I agree with Keith. As long as they are from a reputable manufacturer and epa compliant, don't see why it would be an issue if the only mod. Messing around with the ecm or headers will do it probably though.

Key point being: EPA compliant. There are a whole lot of slip-ons that are not EPA compliant. Putting noncompliant equipment on your bike is grounds for warranty termination. But if the slip-ons carry the EPA stamp of approval and are advertised as being 50-state compliant, then you should have no warranty concerns (unless something happens where the slip-on somehow causes a failure in the bike; in that case, yeah, they may not cover the repair for that issue).

I purposely left some information out of the question because I didn't want the conversation to turn sideways. This issue (thus my question) came up at the dealer where I am negotiating a purchase of an '18 Road Glide. When I bought my '14 Ultra Limited they threw new HD-SE slip-ons in on the deal (including install). When we started talking about the '18 RG, and I suggested new slip-ons, this issue came up from their service department. Guess they won't throw in new pipes with the purchase!

Well HD Screamin' Eagle slip-ons definitely won't affect the warranty. In fact, if you have them installed within the first 60 days of ownership, they're added to your warranty for the full two years. So yeah, they must just not want to do it.

When I bought my 17 rgs I had them throw in the s&s slip ons as well. Not one mention of having to tune or having to buy the SE tuner.

They may not have mentioned it, but the product page on Harley's website does say that ECM recalibration is required. Don't know why your dealer didn't tell you that. Maybe they didn't require it at the time? But they do now, and ECM recalibration requires buying the tuner.

Honestly, depending on which slip ons you buy makes more difference in whether it "requires" tuning or not. Also, with slip ons your not removing the cat. So I think for the most part a flash of the ECM is a waste of money. But if anyone thinks they need one, it's their bike. No harm in going ahead in doing it I guess.
