I installed the latest revision of oil pump and backing plate as of December 2019 and so far (1000 miles) I've had no problem, even running up to red line.

Good Luck!
Thanks for the kind words,. but it's hard not to worry about it. I just got home from work and the first thing that I did was open up the computer to see if I had any comments and or advise. The HD shop is about 40 - 45 minuets away and I'm to busy tomorrow to get by there. So it will be Saturday before I can get down there to talk to them in person. I read a lot on this forum last night and I probably will again tonight. I can't believe that I haven't heard of this problem before now. I must say, this is pretty painful...

May I ask if you are running a Twin Cooled or an Oil Cooled M8. I am asking because I am currently doing a performance upgrade on an Oil Cooled M8 and I chose the S&S Oil Pump and Cam Chest before I learned of the updated parts. I've heard that "Sumping" is more common in the Twin Cooled models

Sorry guys,I just went back to re-read the SB,The number I had listed previously was the old number! this was an error on my part, the PN for the new plate w/seal is 62400206.

Is it worth changing the cam plate and oil pump to say an S&S, or just stay with new designed pump and stock cam plate?

When I did my cam upgrade I stayed with the latest OEM oil pump with the back plate seal and the S&S cam support plate.

Until S&S makes a seal for their back plate, I’ll stick with the stock pump that has one. I’ve emailed S&S twice about this issue and never got a response
