Went ahead and did my 1000 mile service. I dropped the tranny oil into a measuring cup, 28 oz exactly; did the same for the primary, 34 oz exactly, and it was at the bottom of the pressure plate. I don't have a issue......yet.
I did go out this morning and checked it cold. it was right at the full mark. Drove around the woods and heated everything up, not on the stick. Weird. The manual does say to check at "ambient temperature" (fancy word for cold).
This is interesting and I'll keep an eye on things and this thread.

Not true, mine went in at 1 week old 564 miles on it dealer contacted MOCO and they sent them the part. My dealer wouldn't give me any paperwork stating exactly what they did, said there wasn't a part no for the vent tube. I'm gonna run the s*"t out of it this weekend and hopefully the transmission will still have oil in it!!

That's what Harley is thinking. The inner primary vent seems to have solved my fluid transfer issue. Others have had good luck with it also!

I'm glad to hear that the vent solved your problem. I've been following this thread just to see if it worked for you.

I hadn't heard that the dealer shops make less $ on warranty repairs than on pay-as-you-go. Every time I've taken my two recent Harleys in for warranty work, the shops have worked just as hard, and just as fast as I would have expected if I was a gold chainer with unlimited funds. Additionally, I do ALL of my own service work, including mounting and balancing my own tires, which I don't buy from the dealer. So the dealer shops only see me when a warranty repair is needed. Which isn't very often. I can count them all on one hand for two Harleys over three years. One might expect that someone like me, who spends virtually nothing at the dealership besides buying the new bike, would be on the back burner for warranty work. But that has not been my experience. God Bless HD.

Which way to go? The Fat Rod or the Vent Kit or both to stop the transfer problem?

Go with the fat rod, it seems to have worked in every case and you don’t have to waste valuable ride time going back and forth to the dealer.

I just installed my new fat rod last night so I’m pretty positive my transfer problems are over.
