Ok, what is the usual drill for straight pipes and cam?

You have no idea the number of times I've had that conversation with spanking new owners and bitching their bike won't run right after installing straight pipes, had a couple guys I thought were going to trade hands with me over it they got so pissed not being told what they wanted to hear.
Isn't that the usual drill.
By a bike.
Make it loud. and add a cam.
Fart around with a cheap tuner.
By a more expensive tuner.
Fart around with it.
Take to an OK dyno expert and get a crappy tune.
Take it a better dyno tuner and he figures out how to either get more back pressure or sell the guy decent pipe.
Bike runs well.
Am I missing something?
